How Toxic Workplaces Are Killing Us

Alexandria Joy - Monday, March 30, 2015

Have you ever worked in a toxic workplace?

How did it feel? What percentage of your best work were you able to perform?

Did it have a long term impact on your health, confidence and relationships?

I thought so.

Around a decade ago I was a Director at a large government safety regulator. It was there while working on developing a public awareness campaign that I had an epiphany that has stayed with me to this day. Watch this week's episode of UQTV to find out what that epiphany was.

Tweet this: In workplaces you have to communicate, communicate, communicate.

Now I’d love to hear from you. Have you ever worked for a healthy, happy workplace where it was easy to Love Your Work? What was it about the workplace culture that allowed you to feel that way?

Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Thank you, as always, for reading, watching, and adding your perspective to the conversation!

Until next time, love your work!

Heidi just today I was speaking with a woman who described her work place (that she is quitting) as "toxic." I loved the video and the point that "everybody is somebody's somebody." Of course I completely agree with communicate, communicate, communicate!

Heidi - you hit the nail right on the head. It is so important for business to make their employees a priority! Great video! A lot of companies say they put their employees first but their actions do not match that statement. Google has repeatedly made many different lists in the top companies to work for and usually listed in the description is the long list of benefits they have made available to their employees. Many clients I have worked with reported workplace culture as a reason for wanting a new job. No one wants to work in a toxic workplace.

I have worked in a toxic environment and the stress was unbearable! It took me awhile but I started making plans to leave and start my own business and now I work in a very happy environment that I have created!
